Repairing Outdoor Faucets

Prevent cracked spigots by installing a frost-proof outdoor faucet

Spring is in the air and we’re all getting a little antsy for some fresh air! It’s time to get outside and clean up the yard, pick up sticks, and search for the first little signs of green popping up from the ground.

It’s always a bit amazing to see those crocuses and tulips popping up, knowing that they survived 4 – 5 months of below freezing weather! Unfortunately, one thing that doesn’t always survive those freezing months is your outdoor faucets.

One of the most common problems with outdoor faucets is cracking due to freezing pipes or spouts. If you forgot to detach your hose from the spigot last fall, there’s a good chance you could have a cracked hose spigot. This means that water was trapped in the spigot and froze, potentially bursting the pipe inside your house walls. This causes it to leak inside your walls, causing costly damages.

Even if you did detach your hose, freezing temperatures can still cause damages to your spigots and seals. One solution is to install a frost-proof spigot. This puts the faucets flow well within the heated walls of your house.

Additionally, if your spigot has little or no water pressure, there’s a chance you have a blockage due to hard water deposits, such as lime or calcium. It’s best to have a professional plumber clear the pipes, as chemicals alone usually can’t clear the build-ups.

One of our experienced Pearson Plumbing Technicians will be happy to help you get your spigots up and running so you can get a jump on spring!
